ArGoSoft Mail Server .NET continues best traditions of our older,
Win32 based mail servers. It uses concepts and methods, used, tested and
approved by tens of thousands of users since we first released our first mail server
in 1999.
.NET version uses more advanced database engine, and contanins 100% managed
code (.NET), which make it more reliable, efficient, fast. The difference
in speed is more noticeable with IMAP and the Web interface.
Mail Server .NET comes bundled with following features:
- Full support of SMTP (including secondary SMTP), POP3,
IMAP protocols, and complete
delivery service via MX records, smart server, or our relay service;
- Unlimited users and domains;
- Quick Setup wizard to get you started with the server configuration;
- Mailbag domains, with support of ETRN command;
- IDLE command is supported in IMAP, allowing most of email clients,
including mobile phone clients, to notify users about new arriving emails immediately.
The reature is also known as IMAP PUSH;
- Bind to different IP addresses, depending on the domain name, and act as a "virtual"
server. See this document for more information;
- Configure maximum message size, allowed through server, mailbox sizes for users
and domains;
- Anti spam and security features, such as:
- Ability to extend server using 3rd party server plugins.
- More to come (we do updates often)...
Currently we offer two different versions of the web interface.
They both are ASP.NET 2.0 applications, they both, of course, are designed to access
user email via the web, they both are free, and they both come
with the full source code...
Advantages of old version include:
- Server administration;
- Domain Group administration;
New version (supports Mail Server v1.0.5.0 or higher) has much
more advantages
- Is lightweight;
- Can run on a computer, different than mail server computer;
- Does not require SQL Server 2005, or SQL Server Express;
- Does not have problems with folder and database
access rights, because all communication with the mail server is done via a
remoting object;
- Almost all the text seen on the web interface is stored in resource files, which
makes modification of text, it's translation to other languages very easy. See this
document for more information;
- And finally, something you've been asking for very long time! It allows
to send out HTML mail!;
Old and new versions of web interface can peacefully co-exist on the same computer.
Shortly we will be creating a separate web application for administering server
and domain groups via remoting. After that, we will no longer offer the old version.
Important: Prerequisites for mail server are:
Computer, where the server is being installed must have all of above components.
Mail server comes with a free 30 day license. It will be issued by our validation
server when you run it for first time.
Following table allows you to download the modules:
Current version of mail server is
1.0.5.3, July 28 2008 release.
To install the mail server, download and double click the file
MailServerSetup.msi.
To install the old version of web interface, download and double click the file
OldWebMailSetup.msi.
It will work only with mail server v1.0.0.12 or later, installed on the same compute,
also, of course, you have to be running IIS with .NET 2.0 support on your computer.
To install the NEW version of web interface, download and double
click the file WebMailSetup.msi.
It will work with with mail server 1.0.5.0 or later, and it does not have to be
on the same computer as your mail server.
For both web interfaces, of course, you have to be running IIS with .NET 2.0 support,
on the computer where you are installing it.
If you are having security-related problems when running the old version of web
interface, see the following Troubleshooting Guide.
